Racing in the LBC

Boy, it was good to be home from college. It was a welcome relief trading the evergreens and mountain views of Seattle for the familiar cranes and container ships of Long Beach. Team Rio, back in buoy racing mode from Coastal Cup lined up against two other TP52’s, a Custom 52, an Andrews 49 and an OD48 in the three days of Long Beach Race Week. In typical fashion, the wind built from 12 to 18 over the day and everyone slammed the right after the gun in every race. We had pace over the other boats as soon as the wind picked up, but the Margaritaville, a “Contraption 52” was hard to shake with their killer -56 PHRF rating. They took the regatta win, with us in second. Another fun regatta in the books!
