Michael Menninger, 23, hails from Newport Beach, CA. He grew up sailing a wide variety of ocean racers with his dad, steering & winning his first race at age 6. At age 10, he drove the 74′ Maxi Turbo-Sled Zephyrus IV and got his taste for power and speed. An accomplished dinghy sailor, Michael is a 3-time Collegiate All-American, winning three ICSA College National Championships for St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Notable steps in his dinghy sailing career are winning the ISSA High School National Championships and representing the United States at the ISAF Youth World Championships. Experience includes sailing CJF, 420, Laser, catamarans, Vanguard 15, and 49er. 2x College Sailor of the Year Finalist, and two-time National Champion. Other notable sailing would be 2 time Governors Cup Champion (Junior World Match Racing Championship), and 49er experience.
Michael is well-respected in the tactical arenas of team racing and match racing. He has been on the winning team-race teams in the ISSA High School Nationals and the ICSA College Nationals as well as representing the U.S. in several international team race championships. Michael is one of the few youth sailors to win the coveted Governor’s Cup Match Racing event twice.
Teamwork is an integral aspect of Michael’s competitive sailing. He was Team Captain of both his high school and college sailing teams and brings his respect for teamwork to his role as helmsman for the American Youth Sailing Force. Michael is an entrepreneur currently living in San Francisco.
