Growing up in Southern California, 22 year old Cooper Dressler has always spent much of his time on the ocean – surfing, sailing and kite boarding. Early sailing trips in the British Virgin Islands fueled an interest in Junior sailing and dinghy racing. As Sabots gave way to Lasers and CFJ’s, the ‘need for speed’ introduced skiffs and international competitions. The 2006 29er Worlds at Weymouth, England, afforded Cooper and his sailing partner the opportunity to be part of a close-knit team, supporting each other and representing the United States of America.
A strong CFJ high school sailor – twice named MVP for his school – he continued to compete nationally and internationally in skiffs. His racing focus since 2008 has been on 49ers, the Aussie 18′ Skiff, Melges 32 and other larger boats.
Cooper enjoys coaching junior sailors and has worked at Coronado Yacht Club (summers) and Santa Cruz Yacht Club (during the school year) for the past four years. He is currently finishing his senior year at University of California Santa Cruz, studying Earth Sciences. In addition, he is a talented musician and mountain biker.
